hunch-back Kubija

Krishna was pleased, and so he touched the hunch-back Kubija, and she was transported to the heavens.

If anyone knows the story of the hunch-back Kubija, mentioned in the shabad above, could you please put it up. Any knowledgeable person, bhai kulbir singh, bhai balpreet singh or anyone else.

At the invitation of Kansa the mama (maternal uncle) of Siri Krishna, they (Siri Krishna and Balrama) went to Mathura. On their way they were attacked in several ways by Kansa but they escaped unhurt. When Siri Krishna entered Mathura, he saw a young, unmarried woman who had a bent back (she was hunchback) and was known to be ugly. She was carrying perfume made out of sandalwood.

Siri Krishna asked her who the perfume was for and she said that it was for Kansa, the king of Mathura. Siri Krishna asked her if she could give him the perfume. She was already bewitched by Siri Krishna and could not say no to him. She readily and happily gave him the perfume and everything else that was meant for the king.

Siri Krishna was very pleased at her and decided to take away her disease. He moved forward and placed his feet on her feet and then gently stretched her by holding her from her shoulders. By his touch, she was transformed into a fine, normal-bodied, beautiful young woman. She was greatly grateful to him for this.
Siri Guru jee in his baani has mentioned that Kubija was without beauty but was stilled helped by God because her heart was beautiful. She offered all she had to Siri Krishna. The pankiti is:

“Taareela Ganika, Binn-roop Kubija, Biyaadh Ajaamal Taareealay||”
(The Lord had Ganika swim across this ocean and the beauty-less Kubija; and the diseased Ajaamal was given salvation by the Lord).

Siri Guru jee has given the example from the life of Siri Krishna and trying to make us understand that the Lord too would help us if we have a clean heart. The miracles performed by the avatars of previous yugs were performed by the Lord himself by working through these avatars. Siri Guru jee is not preaching us to worship the avatars but only Vaheguru who alone should be worshipped. All holy men and avatars are worthy of our respect.

Thank you very much. That was a beautiful story. This was the only one that I hadn't read from all the stories mentioned in gurbani about ajaamil, ganaka, gajj etc.

Also, that would mean the hunch back had committed less sin. Therefore being able to see something different and special about Krishna, whereas droydhana from the kurav brothers couldn't see that in Krishna so he didn't ask krishna for his help in war with the pandava brothers. Only Arjuna saw that and so asked him to be his charioteer.

The padd-chhed of "Paras Naparas" in the above pankiti does not seem to be right. In my humble opinion, it should be "Parsan Paras". Professor Sahib Singh in his padd-arth of this pankiti has done the padd chhed as "Parsan Paras" means Uttam chhoh i.e. very great divine touch. This seem to be correct interpretation of this pankiti.

Another way of interpreting it would have been to interpret "Parsan" as happy, "khush ho ke" and Paras as touching and the meaning would be "Khush ho ke parsiya" i.e. touched after being happy (dyaaloo, khush) on Kubija. I like the meanings but I have one doubt on this meaning. It would have been really good if the "nanna" of "Parsan" had a sihaari in the end to derive the meaning "Parsan ke or Parsann ho ke". By the same token sometimes through a Mukta word too we can derive the meanings of Sambandh Kaaraks like ke, ka, kee, da, de, dee etc.

Faridkoti and some Sampradayak interpret this pankiti as "Paras Naparas" and they do the meaning of "Naparas" as untouched. The meaning would be that Siri Krishna touched the untouched Kubija. But what does it mean by untouched? How did Krishna touch Kubija?

Gurbani is Agam Agaadh Bodh and may Guru Sahib forgive my mistakes while doing vichaar of this pankiti.

Well when Guru Ji blesses us doesn't he sometimes give us his darshan. Meaning, he does not touch us. OR when we want our mind/heart's desire to be fulfilled we have darshan of the wishing tree from Saachkhand, mentioned in Gurbani. So, in Kubija's case, he could have seen something else from the material matter of Krishna, something that Krishna forced out for the right purpose. Similarly, Guru Ji always forced that thing out too whenever he wanted to bless someone, otherwise he was seen as an ordinary person by some but not by others.

Although, if Krishna did touch him, just like Guru Nanak Dev Ji gave amrit by touching his toe into water, Krishna probably had a similar effect. The magic is normally at feet level of a Saint; in gurbani it says one becomes an angel by touching the feet of a saint.

untouched could mean virginal - as in never touched by any man. b/c she was hunchbacked, ugly etc.

But she was not touched by Siri Krishna in Kaamic way. So her being virgin or not does not matter and for this reason the word "Naparas" cannot mean a virgin in this pankiti.
