Waheguru ji ka khalsa
Waheguru ji ki fateh

Khalsa jio,

True, 5 number is most significant in Sikhi to meet 1 (Akaal Purakh). Why Akaal Purakh or Guru Sahib chose only 5 no. not 3, 4, 6 or 7 for us we do not know because

Only Akaal Purakh or Guru knows, but we do know is what a great Gursikh explained:

1 Sikh is just a Sikh (student or learner) 2 Sikhs are saadsung (company of Good ones) 5 Sikhs are Pameshar (Means attains the padvi or presence of Akaal Purakh).

That is why Deshmesh pita ji given us Panj Piyaray.

On this planet presently if one needs to feel the presence (out sides of one's body) of Akaal Purakh look for the company of 5 rehatvaan Sikhs (regardless of gender) and this is guaranteed he/she will enjoy the lap of Akaal Purakh even he/she has very less or no kamaiyee at all.

Having said that, As 5 is important like rehat of 5 kakkars keski, kanga, kirpan, karra and keshehra for spirituality given with 1 Gurmantar similarly it is important for temporal path as Five Takhat to keep the dominance towards One and the only One WAHEGURU.

This is our tush (nano) thought some other Singhs/KAURs can explain more.

Guru Mehar Karay

Waheguru ji ka khalsa
Waheguru ji ki fateh

ੴ = One Universal Creator God = WAHEGURU = Guru Granth Sahib jeeo

One is Supreme !

For better understanding

"The chosen ones, the self-elect, are accepted and approved."
Chosen, elected, accepted and approved by whom ?
By One superior to them i.e WAHEGURU Sahib jeeo.

"The chosen ones are honored in the Court of the Lord."
Who is the Lord ? WAHEGURU Sahib jeeo.

"The chosen ones look beautiful in the courts of kings."
Who is the King ? WAHEGURU Sahib jeeo.

"The chosen ones meditate single-mindedly on the Guru"
Meditate single-mindedly on Guru ? WAHEGURU Sahib jeeo.

Manmat ji,
There is no relevance or practice of numbers or numerology in Sikhism as such.

Waheguru ji ka khalsa
Waheguru ji ki fateh

ok so theres this famous saying, again i can only briskly paraphrase, where Guru Gobind Singh said that wherever 5 gursikhs assemble he will be present there. can someone give a better/more accurate rendition of the katha i am refering to?

as per the Japji sloaks quoted in the first post, i read somewhere that the panch here refer to the senses, which remain purified when 'haumai' or 'dubidhaa' is gone from inside the body. hence in the absence of haumai mal, they 'ek dhiae'- reside in Prabh.

please forgive my errors

It is my humble opinion that the word ‘panch’ appearing in Siri Jap jee Sahib means ‘Sreshth jan’ or such Gursikhs who have reached high levels in Gurmat spirituality.

The word ‘panch’ does not mean the numerical five. Below is a humble attempt at interpreting the first five pankitis of this pauri:

Gurbani is agam agaadh bodh. May Guru Sahib forgive our mistakes while interpreting Gurbani.

Kulbir Singh
