Pyareo,

What is the Elysian Tree
What is the History
What is the significance
Why is it mentioned in Bani, what is the Link

This reminds me of other common universal elements such as 'paras' (the philosopher's stone)

gur theerathh gur paarajaath gur manasaa pooranehaar ||
The Guru is the Sacred Shrine of Pilgrimage, the Guru is the Wish-fulfilling Elysian Tree. 52

paarjaat jap alakh abhayvaa.
The Elysian Tree, the source of all blessings, is meditation on the Unseen and Unknowable Lord. 108

paarajaath eihu har ko naam ||
This Elysian Tree of miraculous powers is the Name of the Lord. 265

juj mehi jor shhalee cha(n)dhraaval kaanh kirasan jaadham bhaeiaa ||
In the Jujar Veda, Kaan Krishna of the Yaadva tribe seduced Chandraavali by force.

paarajaath gopee lai aaeiaa bi(n)dhraaban mehi ra(n)g keeaa ||
He brought the Elysian Tree for his milk-maid, and revelled in Brindaaban. 470

Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki fateh.

These are "myths" that are mentioned in GURBANI because they were very popular...Everybody wanted to have the Elysian tree because if you had it you could WISH for "anything" and you would get it INSTANTLY...

GURU JI says" WAHEGURU NAAM " is the REAL "elysian tree"...Naam satisfies every hunger and thirst...it gives you all you ask for... MORE IMPORTANTLY, no one has ever seen or had the elysian tree.....BUT NAAM is ATTAINABLE..

So in essence GURU JI is describing these ancient MYTHS as not worth going after...BUT NAAM is worth going after because unlike the myths, NAAM is REAL and of REAL BENEFIT.

Same goes for Paaras... the Stone that could turn IRON into GOLD...MIDAS TOUCH.... etc etc....has been EVRYONE's DREAM....."Wah if I had the Paaras...I would be the RICHEST MAN on Earth !!!...If I had the Midas Touch... I would have MORE GOLD than anyone ever born....!! etc etc etc

GURBANI says NAAM and GURU is the REAL and ATTAINABLE PAARAS that can TRANSFORM a "base, uncouth, uncivilised, full of bad karma human into a GOLDEN- GEM of a MAN - a polished sohisticated Man of GOD.... GURBANI is meant to teach us " WHY go running after a MYTHICAL PAARAS that no one has seen or held...GO after NAAM and transform yourslef !!!!

There are also myths like Kamdhen Gaoo - the magic cow that provides every need of its owner etc etc etc

DONT be MISLED that since all these MYTHS are "mentioned" in Gurbani so they MUST EXIST...GURU JI is using them as EXAMPLES to show us what is MYTH and UNATTAINABLE and what is NOT MYTH and is ATTAINABLE and so should be our GOAL in LIFE.

In modern day.. real LIVING ."MIDAS TOUCH " that I have seen are people like Beckham of MU...do you know that a football that Beckhma kicked into the stands and got picked up by a Spaniard was SOLD for 48 Million Dollars...NOW that is what I call MIDAS TOUCH....a mere touch and an ordinary football turns into MILLIONS in the Bank ???? Wonderful. BUT does Beckhma by any chance have the "paaras stone" ?? I dont think so because such a stone doesnt exist.

BUT GURU NANAK touched a ROBBER/MURDERER/CHEAT called Sajjan THHUGG...and transformed him into a SAINT - not through paaras, leysian tree, kamdhen gaoo...BUT through NAAM.....I bet Beckhma cant do that...BUT WE ALL can... THROUGH the SAME GURBANI that GURU NANAK HAD is WITH US NOW.... the REAL PAARAS.

paarjaath and kaamdhayn are two hindu myths

one is the wish fulfilling tree

and one is the wish fulfilling cow

paarajaath eihu har ko naam means that naam is the real wish fulfiller
