Please help me-ghost in my house

This is not a joke! please somebody tell me how to get rid of ghosts? what are their powers? can they hurt someone?
so far it just makes scratching noises at amrit vela to distract me from paat. it also walks around sometimes.
it was worse tonight than most nights. i kept kirtan sohila going as i went to sleep after nitnem. the playback went kind of fuzzy. i got up to fix it. then i turned it off. i said to it "i'll leave you alone, you leave me alone from now on. let me sleep in peace" or something like that. i went to bed. from behind the head of teh bed it started moaning. i got up and turned on the kirtsan sohila recording again. i heard breathing. i walked to the source of the sound. it sounded like it was coming from a wall. i stood infront of the sound source and just stared at the wall. naam japping to it's breathing. the breathing started to get faster and faster and i freaked out. i turned on the lights and another sohila sahib recording on my computer after i turned it on.
i'm scared to go to sleep. what should i do?
btw, i'm not amrit chuk yet. don't know if that makes a difference ...

yes being amritdhari does help as guru ji would take care of this ghost for you! but all i can suggest is having simran/kirtan playing while you are asleep and doing ardas after kirtan sohila to guru ji to take care of you in the night.
maybe next 5 chardi kala singhs to come over and do paat/simran in your house/room?
this is just my 2p's worth hopefully some more chardi kala gurmuk's will come along and post.....

Problems similar to this have been solved in the past by holding an Akhand Paat with full maryada.

Just wondering...where is your room situated? Are there any rooms next to yours used by other people??
I have also heard of vents making noises...or you can hear other parts of the house through vents...(ex. hear what is going on in the basement).
This may be ghosts...but there also may be another explanation for this.

you should keep Guroo Granth Shaib Ji prakash in your home if possible,nothing could ever happen to you with mahraj prakash there,not to mention shaheed singhs will also guard your house with Guroo Granth Sahib Ji prakash there.

Satguru Amardas Ji has given a Var to all Sikhs that he who recites JapJi Sahib paath every day cannot be affected by ghosts.
You may want to try Jap Ji Sahib da paath at the time. Also wearing Kirpan, Kara helps immensely against these spirits.
I would still search for another explanation.

10 chapai sahib paats
keep lots of gutka in ure room
do ardaas to guru je to get rid of this bhoot from ure house and lived
ask 5 chardi kala singhs do the ardaas in ure room
do an akhand paat in ure room and in the ardaas do ardaas to sache patshah to get rid of this bhoot and to protect u and ure family
keep on saying bani
whenever u get scared start chopai sahib da paat
if u do chapaiu sahib da paat, nothing will be able to harm u
do it with pyaar and sharda
keep ure computer going with a tape of chapai sahib
keep the paat looud
sleep with more then one person
and everyone do paat
do lots of simran in that room, and lots of keertan
dont worry
rakha eak hamara swami
sagal ghata ka antarjami
just do an akhand paat with ardaas, and keep on doing paat
stay with more then one person
remeber, 2 sikhs is sangat
sangat has great powers
everyone keep on doing simran, read bani, etc.
defintley do akand paat and ask 5 singhs to do and ardaas for u

i've tried to be skeptical for the past 3-4 days when i first became aware of it. incidentally, i've been doing paat at this time for pretty much a full week and a half. but i'm pretty sure it's a ghost....the breathing, scratching sounds when i do paat-stops when i move or even very quietly turn around, footsteps, crazy weird moaning last night for a brief period. i think it reallly really hates it when i do paat.
unfortunately, our basement tenants smoke and drink so we cannot bring guru granth sahib ji here. can't kick them out, parents won't allow it (need the money).
it unfortunately doesn't seem to run from any paat. i play it on the comp and listen along so it's perfectly suddh. i'm going to have continous paat playing in my room now. i figure it'll weaken it. i also told my parents to do paat/simran in my room. and we're going to have a visiting saint over for a naam jap (his recommendation).
one other interesting thing. i left my room and went to my brothers room during amrit vela. he is at uni right now and i did some simran in his room. i didn't feel nearly as bothered in his room as i did in my own room. why is this?>

I know exactly what you're talking about, and I've been through similar situations. Sometimes at night it's hard to sleep because you know some other spirit or ghost is in the room with you, trying to scare you. You can just FEEL it. Some people have had their "third eye" (between the eyebrows) opened, and they can actually see spirits and ghosts around them at all times.
These spirits are simply LOST. They ruined their lives and due to attachment and sin, they got left behind on the Earth after dying, and they are trapped with no where to go. Some of these spirits/ghosts have been around for YEARS, I know a Gursikh who got attacked by the ghost of a Pimp who seems to have died years ago. (I know it sounds unbelievable, but it's true).
THIS IS A BIT DISTURBING SO DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO. It's also very heartwarming though.
I also know a Gurmukh Singhnee who woke up in the middle of the night and saw the tormented ghost of a prostitute, sitting at the foot of her (the Gurmukh's) bed. This Gursikh Singhnee , rather than getting scared, felt a lot of love and pity for this tortured soul. Several times the Gursikh would wake up at strange hours because she felt someone touching her feet and bowing to her. She could feel someone's hands lovingly embracing and massaging her feet, and she thought maybe it was her mom or her sister. Amazingly enough, however, it was the ghost of the prostitute. We think that Gursikhs are not recognized in this world, but they are CERTAINLY recognized and valued in the "other" world. This tormented ghost, who the Gurmukh said had been killed in New York in the 1970's, was of a black woman who had gotten led into prostitution. Even this lost soul reocgnized the power of Guru Gobind Singh Jee's daughters, and went to Guru Jee's daughter in hopes of getting mukhtee.
The Gurmukh somehow went into this prostitute/ghost's soul and ventured way back into time, viewing what exactly had happened to the prostitute when she was alive. The Gurmukh had a vision and saw everything for herself and saw that the prostitute had been innocent, but was raped by someone and this man eventually dragged her into the street life and forced her to become a prostitute. Her soul had originally been very pure, but she had her life ruined at the hands of someone else. Eventually, as Guru Jee showed this Gurmukh the entire life of the prostitute, the Gurmukh saw that the prostitute had died in a brutal way. She was gang raped by a group of men and then killed by them, and her body was buried in some strange place. This prostitute's ghost was lost for 30-40 years, roaming around the Earth, and it came all the way to this Gurmukh Singhnee looking for help.
One night the Gurmukh woke up to go to the washroom, and turned around only to see the prostitute standing there. The Gurmukh looked deep into the prostitute's eyes, and the prostitute said "please help me" over and over again. This was all a while ago. I spoke to the same Gurmukh recently and urged her to do ardaas for that poor soul. She did so, and Guru Nanak heard the Singhnee's ardaas, and vowed that the prostitute would NOT be given mukhtee (because you need to earn that) but the prostitute was going to be born into a Gursikh Family so she will now have the chance to become a Singhnee.
Amazing.

What was posted above was just one experience. But there are several more. Many Sikhs and holy people have experienced being paralyzed by ghosts at night - when you sleep on your back sometimes a ghost will enter your body and try to press you down so you can't move. You wont be able to move or even talk, and it'll last for a few seconds. All these ghosts just try to scare you, but they can't really do anything more than that.
Usually ghosts come to people who are pure and innocent, but maybe not Brahm Giani's yet. Ghosts are usually scared of Khalsas/extremely powerful/naam abiyaasi Gursikhs that are drenched in love and not afraid of anything. Ghosts are too scared to come to people like that.
The thing is, ghosts basically work for Maya, and when they see a person that's getting REALLY strong in their Sikhi, they might try to stop it. Maybe these ghosts can see that you're getting stronger and stronger, and they're trying to stop you, because they see that purity within you. You need to start scaring them now. They're basically just lost and they have no where to go. It would be REALLY GOOD if you did ardaas for them and asked that they be re-born as Gursikhs so they'll be given Amrit and will become free.
ADVICE I'VE BEEN GIVEN:
I've heard ghosts are scared of Sukhmani Sahib Dha Paat and even Sarbloh Kirpaans. Sarbloh has some weird shaktee - and I've been told that spirits are usually too scared to come to you and attempt to paralyze your body when you wear a sarbloh kirpaan. I know someone who used to get choked at night by ghosts - he was unable to breath and his body wouldn't move, for a few seconds at a time, and it kept happening. A few days ago they started wearing a sarbloh kirpaan and started playing sukhmani sahib on the computer every night and the ghost hasnt' come back.
I heard about another experience with a Gursikh too - this Gursikh brother and sister felt the presence of a bad ghost in their house. They were sitting downstairs and felt the ghost in the same room with them or on the same floor of the house. They immediately put on Sukhmani Sahib and they began laughing because the ghost got SOOO afraid that it started RUNNING upstairs, away from the Sukhmani Sahib. They heard extremely loud thuds of the ghost running up the stairs because it was scared of Sukhmani Sahib playing.
Also try doing ardaas that the spirits will leave you alone. Try not to get scared because they can recognize when you are scared. Remember that you are (soon to be) the son/daughter of the one and only Shahi Shahn Shah Kalgidhar Dasmesh Shamsher Bahadur Kalgiya Valaa. Guru Gobind Singh and his countless Shaheed Singhs will protect you. Try keeping the avastha in your bedroom very pure. Try doing lots of paat and have paat playing all the time. Try having shasters present there and don't do bad things there. They might even get scared of you when you take Amrit.
Ghosts DO hate it when you do paat because it hurts them. That's the only thing that can kill them. I really have a lot of sympathy, sorrow, and pity for these poor ghosts. They're ruining themselves by trying to mess with Gursikhs. If a ghost ever physically tries to harm or push you or press you down when you sleep, just do simran and use up all the force in your body to make the ghost realize that it should NEVER mess with a Khalsa of Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj

one last thing that I forgot to mention:
many shaheed singh/puraatan singh souls are being reborn into THIS generation of Sikh Youth.
You could be one of them.
That may be one reason why ghosts/spirits want to take you down, because they see the bhagti that your soul has done in previous lives and they see the power and good that will be put into Kaljug by YOU - just ONE khalsa has a lot of power to get rid of evil. These ghosts can see that, and they can see when you're starting to get deeper into Sikhi, they want to prevent all that bir rus and power from exploding into more strength for Waheguroo
(This is all stuff I've learned from my own experiences and from talking to Gurmukhs)
There will be a point when spirits and ghosts will be way too scared to even come near you, so don't worry. Keep faith and try reading rakheya dhey shabad and kirtan sohila before sleeping. Also do as much paat as you can. Sometimes leaving a light on in your room when you sleep also works.
I'll try to find out more, til then, stay strong and in chardi kala!

It was just that I asked the Gursikh that couldnt' you just ask for Guru Ji to give her mukhtee? If you see her soul is pure and she was innocent and Guru Ji is so mahaan then he could just give her mukhtee. But the Gursikh said that would not be right, and that in this world you need to earn mukhtee, it shouldn't just be given to anybody. That soul will probably have the chance to gain mukhtee now though if it gets the human body and is freed from the jon of ghost.
That is just my experience veerji. You do not have to believe it. But I probably made mistakes in typing and explaining. I am not good at explaining things. Very sorry ji.

I meant to say like, the prostitute couldn't really be given mukhtee immediately without earning it. All souls have to earn mukhtee by living the human life as a Gursikh or what not and doing simran, right?
That's what I meant. I meant that she wouldn't be given mukhtee without earning it, so that's why she would be born into a Gursihk family and given the chance to become a Sikh of Guru Ji
although that is all not too relevant to this original post.

Singh, I think it's because only those who have a Guru can become one with God aka gain mukti. This means that only those who are Amrit Chuk can achieve mukti in Sikhi.

Siree Guru Sahib Ji's Gursikhs are TRULY GREAT. No wonder why such Gursikhs like Bhai Gurdas Ji want to become the shoes on the feet of other Gursikhs!
Just imagine all the Gursikhs in Sach Khand...begging eachother to be the ones who wash the others' feet!

Thank you all so much. I started keeping nonstop japji sahib recording going in my house. and i do ardass for protection and for the ghost to move on to the next level in its spiritual evolution. i try to keep my dhian on bani and ignore the ghost. last night it was on top of me for a brief period of time after my amritvela, i could also hear it breathing beside me. but they can sense fear so i concentrated on the bani and went to sleep. they seemed weaker/less disruptive than last time. i think that from here on things will just get better with this situation. i really appreciate everyones help. and their interesting comments/stories.

it comes at night.
it's better now. i still heard it last night. it tried to bug me but i really tried hard to keep dhian on gurbani and have nonstop japji sahib in my room on my comp. i did ardass for it to move on, not bother me. i think things will be better from now on.
NOTE FROM ADMIN: We were unable to approve the "weird" thing incident that you wrote happened to you last night.

I've also had the same problem though and it's really difficult to sleep sometimes at night and sometimes even during the day, but it's worse for me at night than during the day. "please help!" - what tricks did you find to be most helpful in conquering this??

have faith that bani will protect you. keep it going on in your room. keep up with paat and simran. i listen to bani as i go to sleep. leave the door open at night and tell it it can leave if it wants to. wear sarbloh kara and kirpan. pray for it to move on to next life and leave you alone. pray for protection. have faith b/c it all works. seriously it does. don't be afraid. keep dhian on Paat, don't think about it too much. it can sense fear. i think it's just trying to scare you away from doing paat. maybe keep lights on at night?
do an akhand paath at your house with some hardcore singhs. or a naam jap. speak with people at your gurdwara about this. i also posted on gursikhijeevan.com and akj.org to get max responses (i was really freaked out at the time). check those out. above all have faith. maybe this will be better for your spirituality in the long run.

a gurmukh came over today and did ardass for us. he gave me some shabds to do to get rid of the problem. kalyug is testing me. i'm having trouble finding these shabds.
please direct me to a recording and/or an english translation of the following banis:
-shamser nama - spelled sassa, haha with tippi, sassa, rara(soft). nanna with kanna, mumma with kanna.
-also need punjubi of this particular bani
-dukhni oanker

veerji maybe you should create another post for this or directly ask the admin somehow..
P.S. I've been sleeping peacefully since I started
1) doing rakheya dhey shabad followed by keertan sohila, facing my pillow, before going to sleep (i do it with the light on)
2) and leaving a lamp or closet/washroom light on in my room when I sleep
3) if i ever feel the presence of anything in my room i remind myself that i'm not even scared, and there's no need to be scared, because my guru is so powerful and mahaan and samrath evrywhere
4) i read gurbani veechars before sleeping (just like 1 or 2 pages in punjabi til i get really sleepy) because it puts my mind in the right place, i start thinking of "happy" things like smagams, sikhi, sangat, etc..
5) Lastly, I've done ardaas saying "guru ji i wont be able to wake up at amrit vela and wont be able to continue living a normal sikhi life if these spirits dont leave me alone"
that's all been helping me a lot. I haven't had any problems since ive done that
