When doing paath, do it with full shardha and faith.

Listen to paath that you do.

Try to understand the meanings of paath that you do.

Do ardaas after you do paath.

Why do it only for 6 months?

If adding a new paath to your regular nitnem of 7 baanis, add Siri Asa kee Vaar followed by Siri Sukhmani Sahib. These baanis are the the most important and beneficial. Siri Asa kee Vaar is more beneficial because if you have this baani memorized, you can sing along the raagis and kirtaniyaas every morning.

Siri Sukhmani Sahib is beneficial because such is the style and construction of this baani that if you recite this in one sitting; by the end of the this paath, your mind gets focussed on Naam.

There are 24 ashtpadis in this baani. Each Ashtpadi as the name implies has 8 pauris in it. Every pauri has 10 lines in it. Every line rhymes with the next line. Every line is of same length. When mind is imprisoned in this paath, it gets focussed. Waah!! What a great baani this is.

Daas,
Kulbir Singh

waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh.

what a wonderful explanation veer kulbir singh ji.
Sukhmani Sahib..... the epitome of SUKH....that comes from NAAM JAAP.

Yes you are absolutely right when you say the very structure of this Bani is such that the Mann is kept on the narrow path towards Naam and only Naam...something like the barriers built at the sides of the highway that keep one on track.

A regular Paath of this bani ensures a healthy HEART, no High Blood Pressure and a calm and serene lifestyle. This has been proven in many medical situations and is being used in a major medical hospital in india I beleive....

Thats why I frimly beleive that when GURU ARJUN SAHIB JEE gave us SUKHMANI...there is no need for a "DUKHBHANJANI"...and that is precisely why such a bani as dukhbhanjani is missing from the Guru Granth sahib Jee. SUKHMANI is a TREASURE of SUKHS so HUGE that no dukhs dare get near one who does regular paath of Sukhmani...when we have LIGHT who needs darkness ??

Every SIKH should try a regualr paath of SUKHMANI SAHIB daily and see the vast improvemt in in his life soon after.

And of course Asa Di Waar is GURU Nanak Sahib Jee's Masterpiece.....and a regular Paath is most useful.

A gem of a Bani ( this doesnt mean other gurbani is not gem).. is DAKHANI ONGKAAR...full of Manak Moti to the Brim. This is such a wonderful bani that I dont understand why Sikhs have "ignored" it compared to Asa Di Vaar. In Dakhni Ongkar Guur Nanak Ji explains his Philosophy in great detail... I would strongly recommend a daily reading of this Bani too.

Dass jarnail Singh.

If you read Sukhmani Sahib will you still get cavities if you stop brushing your teeth and do nothing but read Sukhmani all day?

thanks for your help. The reason why I'm only doing this paat for 6 months is b/c it's for udham. I'm not lazy. I just have a lot of trouble getting motivated. I've tried all sorts of tricks like motivation techniques to no avail.
it's the 5th pauri of japji sahib that i'm starting.

also, could somebody please recommend a paat for spiritual knowledge??? i know that all of gurbani is for this. but different banis have different "
main thrusts" such as sukhmani sahib. So i'd like one for gian.

Thank you.
