How and when was the nitnem bania chosen? That is to say, who selected the banis that were to be read in nitnem and when ?

the first time was at the first 1699 amrit sanchaar
these were the banis guru je read
the tradition of amirit sanchaar has been kept pretty much the same
bhula chuka maf

There are some variations in the extact make of the Nitnem in the 6 puratan rehitnamas (some indicate only JapJi and Jaap Sahib, others drop Anand Sahib and add additional lots of Saviyae and so on) and also in the accounts of the Amrit Sanchar (some indicate full recital of Akal Ustat and also of Chandi di Var).

The presently accepted 5 Banis are largely accepted by most Taksals (schools) within the Sikh Panth, however there has been and still is variation in the exact Nitnem composition within certain quarters.
