Strange meditation

dear sangat ji,
I was meditating when I was lying in bed (just before going to sleep). I could see and feel as if I was floating on an endless ocean and slightly rocking. It was a great feeling - so tranquil and beautiful. Then in the next moment, it was as if I was drowning in the water.....but even this felt great....
What does this mean??
The next day i happened to be reading a book (sikhi) and there was something in there about a ocean and how the guru gives you a boat to survive etc...
Does this have connection to the dream....what a strange coincidence if not.
i don't know why - but especially before going to sleep - if and when I have been contemplating on the Guru I see (sort of) visions of sikhs, and images of what can be described as old sikh clothes etc....
I am really worried that these visions will lead me astray - either into occult things..??? or hunkaar??? or mislead and confuse me?? What does all this mean. All I want is to be one with the One.....
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...or similar experiences.

Firsty, when you start doing simran (meditating) there will be alot of distractions, that is the whole point of simran, to control the mind.
Guru Nanak Sahib in Japji Sahib says 'Man Jeetai Jag Jeet' - 'If you can conquer your mind you can conquer the world'. So it is hardest to control the five evils which dwell in the mann (mind)
If you have been doing simran for a long time on a regular basis, then you will realise that you suddenly develop occult powers (riddhia siddhia), but you must control them, just like you control the mind.
Sometimes, you get visions of your past life.
The only way you will get ahankaaree about it is if you tell people about these things, you will also find that you loose this divine kirpa that Satguru has bestowed on you.
Sometimes, only Satguru can answer questions, because only he knows what is going on deep inside you and what you are thinking.
Forgive me if I have erred, for only Satguru is perfect.

Thank you for these helpful points.
Do you think I should be putting these visions out of my mind then or should I be enquiring into them in my mind.....this is my dilemma.
I used to practice reiki and spiritual healing etc....but now realise that this path is wrong and that you can never peace and salvation. I have separated myself from this path now - heart and mind.....but am worried that I end up going down the same route of misunderstanding.
Please accept my apologies for I am still learning and lack so much knowledge and understanding....I just don't want to repeat my previous mistakes. What do these visions mean?
Thank you
