Speaking to a Nihang Singh friend of mine, the chand tora represents the Hindu Deity Lord Shiva who represents the deconstuctor, hence as the Nihangs are a martial part of Sikhi they wear the Chand Tora on their dastaars as a sysmbolic gesture of the role - i.e. to deconstruct/destroy during battle.

However, in the centre there is the Khanda or 'Bhagauti' which represents Akaal Purakh to show that that Waheguru is always central to their duty or role.

Please bear in mind, apart from what has been given to us by our Gurus explicity all other info is just interpretations of people meaning that there is never an incorrect and correct answer.

Bhul Chuk Maaf.

Fateh!
