The perjury case against convicted Air India bomb-maker Inderjit Singh Reyat, who has been accused of lying during the Air India trial, has been adjourned until March.

Lawyers for Reyat, the only person convicted in the Air India case, said they were not ready to proceed with his trial on the perjury charges. A trial date will be set on March 7.

The charges relate to Reyat's testimony in the 2005 trial of Ripudaman Singh Malik and Ajaib Singh Bagri. Both men were acquitted of murder and conspiracy charges in the bombing.

In the trial, Reyat testified that he couldn't remember anything about his alleged conspirators. Prosecutor Len Doust moved to treat him as a hostile witness and called his testimony "a pack of lies."

The perjury indictment against him lists 27 instances in which he is alleged to have lied while testifying.

Under oath, Reyat said he didn't know what the bombs were for and had no idea to whom he gave the bomb materials even though that person, known only as Mr. X, stayed at his home for a week.

In a prison interview with CBC News 10 years ago, Reyat said he bought dynamite and timers without knowing what they were going to be used for. He also said he had nothing to do with any Sikh militants.

But CBC News video shown at the trial showed Reyat involved in a Sikh protest during which India's prime minister at the time was burned in effigy.

Reyat, the only person convicted in the Air India case, is in the final days of a five-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter for his role in acquiring materials to build the bomb that killed 329 people on board the June 22, 1985, flight. His sentence ends Feb. 9.
