Interpretation in English :

SALOK
With my tongue I chant the Lord’s Name;
with my ears I listen to the Ambrosial Word of His Shabad.
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who meditate on the Supreme Lord God.
|| 1 ||
All concerns are false except those of the One Lord.
O Nanak blessed are those who are in love with their True Lord.
|| 2 ||
PAUREE
I am forever a sacrifice to those who listen to the sermon of the Lord.
Those who bow their heads before God are perfect and distinguished.
Those hands which write the Praises of the infinite Lord are beautiful.
Those feet which walk on God’s Path are pure and holy.
In the Society of the Saints they are emancipated;
all their sorrows depart.
|| 14 ||
(This HukamNama occurs on Ang: 709 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.)

Khalsa jeeo,

The panktee:

hirjsuilKihbyAMqsohihsyhQw]

really caught my notice.

Would anyone have any advice about writing gurbaaNee?

For instance, if you think it differs, the maryada for writing gurbaaNee onto single pannae, the maryada for writing gutkae saahibaaN and the maryada for writing onto angs re: maharaaj jee’s saroop.

Also, any tips for writing gurbaaNee full-stop would be excellent. i.e. types of suitable pen, nib, inks etc. any books you could recommend re: improving your gurmukhee handwriting etc. would also be good. How about books which feature images of hand-written gurbaaNee such as guroo saahibaa(n) deh hukamnamae. And where can you get hold of one of those small desk/drawers which you can sit on the floor with and write…you know – the type that treasurers at the gurooduaraa sahib would use when collecting donations in sangat…hard to describe it exactly but I’m sure you know hat I mean.

Dhanvaad.

vaheguroojeekakhalsa,vaheguroojeekeefateh!

khalsa jeeo,

i also forgot to ask the following:

- where can i have darshan of hath-likhat (hand-written saroopaa(n)) in the uk?
- are there any puraatan saroops in the uk?
- are there any images that people can send me of ahnd-written saroopaa(n)?

i want to have darshan not only to get lahaa but also so that i can have darshan of the different handwriting and spacing conventions people naturally or intentionally adhere to when writing gurbaaNee.

dhanvaad.

vaheguroojeekakhalsa,vaheguroojeekeefateh!

khalsa jeeo,

re: maryada - i know very little myself but my heart tells me that it should be done with extreme satkaar. in the same way we maintain sucham during amritvelaa (clean kopRae, keshee ishnaan etc.), i humbly think we should do so when writing gurbaaNee.

the late bhai raam singh, jathedaar of the jatha who passed away 2 years ago, did seva of a hathlikhat saroop. i am told by a singh that he sat at tabiyaa, with chandowa etc. when doing seva of the angaa(n) i.e he treated the seva of writing angaa(n) for maharaaj jee's saroop with as much satkaar as when doing paath from maharaaj jee's saroop.

Bhai Sahib Jee, I believe there is a Hath-Likhat Saroop of Mahaaraaj at Gurduaaraa Sahib Singh Sabha in Southall. Bhai Jaswant Singh Khosa came to edmonton a while ago and did seva of writing out Mahaaraaj Jee's Saroop for the local Gurduaaraa Sahib here. He said he had written previous Saroops; one is Prakaash at Har Kee PouRee, Amritsar Sahib and one Saroop is at Singh Sabha, Southall. The words all have spaces between them, but the top line is continuously connected.

I believe this is a link to a picture of Mahaaraaj Jee's Saroop Prakaash at Har Kee PouRee, Amritsar Sahib.
